In 2020, like many of us, I took the opportunity to reflect on my career direction.

I’ve always found my work in policy, strategy and governance meaningful — and I continue to work in this space full time. But alongside this work, I realised I wanted find a way to support people directly one-one-one.

That led me to volunteer as a telephone counsellor with Griefline, supporting people experiencing grief and loss. It was a deeply valuable experience that reaffirmed how much I care about being there for people during periods of uncertainty, loss, and change.

That experience prompted me to think about how I could include this kind of support more intentionally into my career. I began combining my background in workforce development and systems thinking with counselling and coaching — and over time, Bright Careers took shape.

Bright Careers focuses on supporting people through the complexity of mid-career decisions.

This might include:

  • shifting roles

  • changing sectors

  • returning to study

  • rethinking work and identity

  • or simply aligning professional life more closely with personal values.

Through coaching and structured support, I aim to help people find clarity and confidence in their next steps — especially those working in health, human services, or public purpose sectors.

On this blog, you’ll find:

  • Guidance on navigating career change and complexity

  • Reflections on career development approaches like narrative counselling, systems thinking, and career design

  • Sector-specific content (e.g. policy, human services, health, governance)

  • Updates on events and programs — including graduate opportunities and professional development

  • Practical resources to support values-based decision-making at mid-career and beyond.

I’m glad you’re here — and I hope you find something useful in the ideas I share.
